This is the story of the most expensive screw ever sold by Larry Hillman: A few years ago a navy enlistee in uniform came to the warehouse counter. He was looking for six fasteners for a nuclear sub at one of our bases. The sub was in dry dock but couldn’t leave until they could find these fasteners. The subs are expensive along with all the support people, base and activities involved combined. The bases only purpose is to support the naval submarines and their personnel. There are about twelve thousand people at this base. What is the cost per minute for this sub to sit in dry dock. Well, we had what he needed they were #4-40 stainless steel Philips flat mead machine screws. A few pennies apiece. Not even two bits. What did they need the screws for: “The cage for their joy stick.” The steering wheel – stick. They had been working on the control deck and miss placed the existing fasteners.

My job is fun most all the time. These experiences happen over and over again.
